History of Holiday Sandcastle Village
Holiday Sandcastle Village is the brainchild of South Padre Island’s most famous sculptor Lucinda “Sandy feet” Wierenga. She has been creating sand sculptures since 1987 and is one of the best sand sculptors in the world.
The first Holiday Sandcastle Village was planned and conceptualized in October 2019. The sculptures were created by Lucinda as well as other renowned international sand sculptors who were visiting South Padre Island for the 32nd Annual Sandcastle Days Competition. South Padre Island CVB as well as local businesses funded the event.

The Holiday Village featured popular themes celebrating the Holiday season and was attended by over 30,000 visitors. That first year, the Village was open to viewing from Thanksgiving to New Years Day in early January. Due to the popular response, the sandcastle Village was converted into a year round event with the sculptures receiving seasonal updates for Valentines Day and Spring Break.
Couples, especially love the hearts and love themed sculptures, making it one of the most romantic attractions on South Padre Island. But come October and the sculptors get busy again – creating a Christmassy and beachy Holiday Sandcastle Village that will wow visitors!
